First Latin American Outsourcing Summit Opens in Colombia

President Juan Manuel Santos Demonstrates Government Support of Outsourcing

Cartagena, Colombia, May 26 – More than 300 outsourcing professionals have convened in Cartagena, Colombia to kick off the first-ever 2011 Latin American Outsourcing Summit.

“Colombia has access to innovation like never before,” President Juan Manuel Santos said in a statement opening the event and showing the government’s support of the industry.

Hosted by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) and ANDI, the National Business Association of Colombia, the event will run until May 27 at the Las Américas Global Resort and International Convention Center in Cartagena.

Leaders from across the Latin American business community along with IAOP’s thought leadership and global network are joining at the event to better understand and leverage the explosion of outsourcing taking place across the region, including Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru.

“Outsourcing is proving to be most important in providing businesses with a high level of flexibility,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett. “Outsourcing providers need to be able to provide their customers with the ability to enter into flexible relationships.”

Corbett shared results from the 2010 Outsourcing World Summit Survey that showed 97 percent of respondents globally are outsourcing the same or more and the top 200 companies in outsourcing generated some 4 million jobs.

“The Great Recession has in fact been good for the global economy,” Corbett noted. “There has been a two to one increase in the number of companies increasing volumes, and a seven to one increase in the number of companies increasing services.”

Other opening speakers included Luis Carlos Villegas, president, ANDI; Maria Claudia Lacouture, president, ProExport; Carlos Castro, chairman, chamber of BPO&IT, ANDI; and Santiago Pinzon Galan, executive director, Chamber of BPO&IT ANDI and chair of IAOP’s Latin America Advisory Board.

President and CEO of Softtek Inducted into Outsourcing Hall of Fame

Leader in IT Services Honored by Industry at Outsourcing Summit in Cartagena

CARTAGENA, Colombia, May 27, 2011 – Blanca Treviño, co-founder, president and CEO of Softtek, has been inducted into the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals®’ (IAOP’s) prestigious Outsourcing Hall of Fame, the industry’s highest professional recognition for contributions to business and society.

She was honored today at a luncheon ceremony attended by hundreds at The 2011 Latin American Outsourcing Summit.

In an almost 30-year career, Treviño has gained international recognition as a promoter of the IT services industry in and from emerging countries, collaborating with various governments to increase Latin America’s participation in the IT field.

As president of Softtek, which Treviño co-founded in 1982, she positioned the company as a key part of Mexico’s opening its doors to the United States as a provider of IT services. This shaped what is known today as Near Shore®, Softtek’s trademarked delivery model, and a term widely used in the industry to define outsourcing services provided by countries within close proximity.

“I may have one of the most rewarding and humbling jobs in the world. Being inducted to IAOP’s Hall of Fame is obviously a great, great honor,” said Treviño. “This is not an individual achievement. Unfortunately, we cannot have all my 6,000 Softtek colleagues and hundreds of clients accepting this recognition. It is through their hard work and trust that we have made great strides in maturing the IT outsourcing industry in Latin America.”

Treviño is identified by several media publications as one of the most influential executives in Mexico and Latin America. She has been on the Board of Directors for Walmart Mexico since 2006, has participated in forums at the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Kellogg School of Management, Harvard Business School and London Business School.

She has been an involved supporter of many charities throughout Mexico and served as a board member for several universities and nonprofit organizations. Treviño is a frequent presenter in national and international forums related to entrepreneurialism, information technology and the role of women in business.

“The Outsourcing Hall of Fame recognizes the very best professionals in the outsourcing industry whose outsourcing management practice and leadership has significantly contributed to business and society at large,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett, “I am pleased to welcome Blanca Treviño, the first female to be honored, into the Outsourcing Hall of Fame.”

IAOP Announces the Cloud Service Measurement Initiative Consortium (CSMIC) at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley as New Academic Alliance Partner
Collaboration to Develop Cloud Computing Standards

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, June 20, 2011 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (lAOP®) today announced the Cloud Service Measurement Initiative Consortium (CSMIC) at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley as its newest Academic Alliance Partner.

IAOP and CSMIC are working to develop a Service Measurement Index (SMI), a set of business-centric performance indicators for members of the Cloud Commons community. This will provide IT professionals with a standardized method for measuring and comparing internal and external cloud services. IAOP has also become a member of CSMIC.

“Having a talented set of leaders joining CSMIC from key professional organizations like IAOP, industry, government, and academia will enable us to develop practical measures to support senior managers who are responsible for making decisions about moving to the cloud,” said CSMIC co-director Dr. Jane Siegel.

Thought leaders who are experts in measuring and managing IT-enabled services formed the CSMIC SMI management program to meet the need for enterprise-wide standards for calculating risk versus reward of cloud computing services.
“The importance of cloud services in outsourcing has grown exponentially,” said IAOP CEO, Debi Hamill. “Through our newest partnership with CSMIC, we expand our ability to bring the latest information on cloud technology directly to our membership and outsourcing professionals worldwide.”

Annual IAOP Event to Explore Turning Opportunities into Successes

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, June 27 – With outsourcing opening up many new growth opportunities for organizations globally, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) will look toward the future at its 2012 Outsourcing World Summit.

“The financial and economic crisis has reshaped and transformed the outsourcing industry,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett. “It has also created never before seen opportunities.”

Themed “Outsourcing Beyond the Horizon: Turning Today’s Opportunities into Tomorrow’s Successes,” the 15th annual event will be held Feb. 20-22, 2012, at Disney’s Contemporary Resort & Conference Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The 2012 Outsourcing World Summit will address how to capitalize on these opportunities to maximize success at organizations and delve deeply into issues that are critical to today’s professionals and their companies.

U.S.-Based Companies Dominate Top 10 Leaders of Global Outsourcing 100

Released today by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®), six U.S. companies are ranked among the top 10 service providers along with Accenture, including (5) Convergys, (6) CB Richard Ellis, (7) CSC, (8) NCR and (10) Johnson Controls.

Other companies in the Leaders category of companies with more than $50 million in revenue or 5,000-plus employees are: (2) ISS, Demark; (3) Sodexo, France; (4) Infosys Technologies, India; and (9) Wipro Technologies, India.

The independently judged, opt-in ranking of the world’s best outsourcing service providers and advisors is a respected go-to resource to help customers compare companies using an objective methodology. This is the seventh provider list and third advisor ranking

The overall results show the continued strength of the global outsourcing industry as well as it diversity across a broad range of industries from IT, HR and R&D to facilities management, real estate, food services and customer relationship management. Despite the economy, total revenue grew 10 percent while employment is up 4.5 percent, down slightly from 6 percent last year, according to information submitted by applying companies.

IAOP Seeking World’s Top Companies for Annual Rankings

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, August 4 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (lAOP®) is calling on outsourcing service providers and advisors to apply for its annual Global Outsourcing 100® and join the ranks of past leaders like Accenture and Alsbridge.

The association is accepting applications for the annual independently judged, opt-in ranking beginning September 1 through Nov. 1, 2011. For complete information about current rankings, as well as details to apply for 2012, please visit IAOP’s website here.

Now entering its seventh year for service providers and fourth for advisors, the Global Outsourcing 100® has become an important resource to help companies make more informed purchasing decisions based on an objective methodology.

In 2011, Accenture was named the world’s best outsourcing provider for the fourth consecutive year while Alsbridge topped the list of leading advisors to the industry.

The unranked lists will be previewed at the 2012 Outsourcing World Summit, Feb. 20-22, 2012 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and fully released in May 2012.

“In its seventh year, the Global Outsourcing 100 is widely recognized as the industry’s go-to list. Our work in building its foothold and growing awareness continues as we strive to create value for providers and advisors, and the companies that want to do business with them, said IAOP Managing Director of Thought Leadership, and 2012 judges’ panel chair, Jagdish Dalal, COP.

IAOP Conducting Global Survey: Corporate Social Responsibility in Outsourcing
Results to be released at 2012 Outsourcing World Summit

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., August 8, 2011 – A global survey being conducted by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) will update the growing importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in outsourcing.

IAOP is surveying outsourcing providers, customers and advisors on their actions and views on CSR, as well as sustainability and environmental responsibility. The survey will be conducted through this summer and early fall, and results will be released at the 2012 Outsourcing World Summit at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The survey is open to the association’s 110,000 plus membership and affiliates as well as all outsourcing professionals interested in participation. It is available at IAOP’s website.

Survey questions cover topics including perceptions about the impact of outsourcing on the environment; climate and society; reporting on CSR practices; business strategy; budgets for CSR activities; standards and codes of conduct; and the importance of CSR issues and policies.

IAOP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) subcommittee of the Advocacy and Outreach Committee is sponsoring the survey. Members of this subcommittee include industry leaders in CSR, as well as academic researchers with the Ted Rogers School of IT Management at Ryerson University and representatives of ITSqc and the Rockefeller Foundation.

A study by Professor Bill Hefley of the University of Pittsburgh and ITSqc showed that companies who ranked as the world’ leading outsourcing providers in IAOP’s 2009 Global Outsourcing 100® had significantly greater CSR activities than other outsourcing firms.

The Certified Outsourcing Specialist-Foundation Principles (COS-FP) is the fourth certification in the COS family.

The association’s Certified Outsourcing Specialist™ (COS) family of certifications will now include the COS-FP certification, which is supported by APMG-International’s qualifying training program, Sourcing Foundation Principles, and its testing services. IAOP and ANDI Promote Outsourcing Certification in Latin America

BOGOTA, COLOMBIA, Oct. 28, 2011 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) expanded the reach of its certification and professional development programs by presenting its Certified Outsourcing Professional® (COP) Master Class, in partnership with Corporate Member ANDI (National Business Association of Colombia), on October 26-28, in Bogota, Colombia. This is the second time the 3-day course has been delivered in Colombia.

The class, led by IAOP authorized trainer Jane Siegel, Ph.D., IT Services Qualification Center (ITSqc), and Certified Outsourcing Professional (COP), is based on the Outsourcing Professional Body of Knowldege™ (OPBOK). It covers the Outsourcing Professional Standards (OPS) and provides students an opportunity to learn about issues specific to the industry in Colombia and Latin America as a whole.

U.S.-Based Companies Dominate Top 10 Leaders of Global Outsourcing 100

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., May 9 – U.S.-based companies dominated the top 10 Leaders in the 2011 Global Outsourcing 100® list with Accenture continuing to hold the number one position among service providers for the fourth consecutive year and Alsbridge named the top advisor for the first time.

Released today by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®), six U.S. companies are ranked among the top 10 service providers along with Accenture, including (5) Convergys, (6) CB Richard Ellis, (7) CSC, (8) NCR and (10) Johnson Controls.

Other companies in the Leaders category of companies with more than $50 million in revenue or 5,000-plus employees are: (2) ISS, Demark; (3) Sodexo, France; (4) Infosys Technologies, India; and (9) Wipro Technologies, India.

The independently judged, opt-in ranking of the world’s best outsourcing service providers and advisors is a respected go-to resource to help customers compare companies using an objective methodology. This is the seventh provider list and third advisor ranking.

The overall results show the continued strength of the global outsourcing industry as well as it diversity across a broad range of industries from IT, HR and R&D to facilities management, real estate, food services and customer relationship management. The list also reflects the industry’s true global nature with these companies operating and employing people around the world.

Despite the economy, total revenue grew 10 percent while employment is up 4.5 percent, down slightly from 6 percent last year, according to information submitted by applying companies.

Designed to replicate the evaluation process that customers use when selecting providers, the final ranking is based on a weighted average of size and growth rate, customer references, demonstrated competencies and management capabilities.

“These firms on the Global Outsourcing 100 are today’s leaders and tomorrow’s rising stars,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett, who led the judges’ panel. “The applicants companies went through a rigorous process that will help them better understand what customers are looking for and present themselves in the best light to win business.”

The Rising Stars category of smaller fast-growing companies that are ranked numbers 76 to 100 provide a snapshot of outsourcing destinations to watch and include Latin and South America. U.S.-based companies also placed well in this segment with 9 percent of the fastest growing companies based here.

Unique Event Being Held at Microsoft Briefing Center in New York City May 24-25, 2011

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, May 2, 2011 — The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP) and its New York, New England, Cloud Computing and Tools & Technology Innovation chapters will host the outsourcing industry’s 2011 Tools & Technology Symposium – East on May 24-25, 2011. The event will be held in New York City at Microsoft’s Briefing Center, located at 1290 Avenue of the Americas. Event sponsors include Accenture, BeyondCore, Infosys, Microsoft and other outsourcing thought leaders.

Technology is transforming outsourcing, and this symposium brings together leading outsourcing customers, providers and advisors to share best practices in the use of advanced tools and technologies to improve the value obtainable through outsourcing and shared service relationships. Industry leaders will discuss how these tools impact outsourcing financial performance, service quality, capabilities delivered, risk/compliance and overall relationship governance. Certification and Development are the “Two Pillars for Outsourcing Success,” Association Says

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, April 28 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) continues to expand its professional and organization development offerings with its support of the e-Sourcing Capability Models (eSCM) and certification.

Developed by IAOP’s corporate and professional development partner ITSqc, LLC -- the Carnegie Mellon spin-off created to promote best practice models for the global IT-enabled services industry -- these standards include models for service providers and client organizations.

Aligned with IAOP’s Outsourcing Professionals Body of Knowledge (OPBOK), the models are used globally to improve organizational performance, appraise organizational capability and certify the capablity of organizations based on their use of and adherence to the best practices.

ITSqc is working with strategic partners and authorized organizations to support global adoption of the eSourcing Capability Models.

Two Honored as Member of Year

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, March 18 – Outsourcing demonstrated its strength as a global platform to grow and transform businesses with record numbers of professionals coming together to chart the industry’s future at the 2011 Outsourcing World Summit®.

More than 700 professionals from 32 countries attended the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’® (IAOP®) annual conference, Feb. 21-23, at the Renaissance Esmeralda, in Indian Wells, California, making it the largest in the event’s 14-year history.

“We stand on the cusp of a new state of outsourcing as a global platform for transformation and growth driven by integrated teams of high-value professionals using advanced management practices and processes,” IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett told delegates during his key-note address.

Outsourcing customers, providers and advisors from leading companies converged at the summit with the largest numbers of international attendees coming from China, Colombia and Canada, to hear the latest strategies to lead companies to success in the new outsourcing landscape.

“Outsourcing remains an important business strategy that must be linked to both business and functional strategy,” said keynote speaker Sandy Ogg, former chief human resource officer at Unilever and operating partner for Blackstone Group in New York.

Ogg was also inducted into the prestigious Outsourcing Hall of Fame during the event, along with William F. Concannon, president of global corporate services at CB Richard Ellis.

Two IAOP Members of the Year Lauded

IAOP recognized Chris Long, chief operating officer of StayWell Health and Management, and Bobby Varanasi, chairman and chief executive officer of Matryzel Consulting, Inc., as “Members of the Year” for their work to advance the outsourcing industry.

The two long-time corporate members were honored at a luncheon ceremony attended by hundreds for their demonstrated commitment to the growth of IAOP and their leadership in the promotion and delivery of the association’s programs.

Long chairs IAOP’s Voice of the Customer Chapter and is a member of the Membership Committee and GEO Subcommittee. He also facilitates the customer-only networking sessions at The Outsourcing World Summit. A Certified Outsourcing Professional® (COP), he is an advocate for IAOP’s Corporate and Professional Development Programs.
“It is an honor to receive the Member of the Year award from such a prestigious organization during such an exciting time in the evolution of the outsourcing industry,” Long said.

Varanasi, an IAOP Global Ambassador, chairs IAOP’s Malaysia Chapter and is an authorized trainer for the COP master class. He has been instrumental in introducing the COP program around the globe and winning support for the program from the Malaysian government. IAOP’s COP program is the first senior management program the Malaysia government has endorsed.

Global Movement

In addition to the U.S. and Canada, the emerging offshoring nations of South America also participated strongly in this year’s Summit and delegates also were in attendance from the European Union, several African nations and Australia.

Among those participating was Chile-IT, a non-profit organizing preparing Chilean IT companies to outsource their services to the U.S.

Advanced Outsourcing Certification in Human Resources to be Offered by IAOP and HROA

Indian Wells, Calif., Feb. 23 – Professionals working in Human Resources outsourcing can validate their expertise with a new advanced professional certification being developed jointly by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) and HROA.

Announced today at IAOP’s 14th annual Outsourcing World Summit® here, the new Certified Outsourcing Professional®-HR designation will enable individuals who are outsourcing customers, providers or advisers to demonstrate their HR outsourcing expertise.

“The COP designation has become globally recognized as the industry’s de facto standard of excellence since IAOP introduced it in 2006,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett. “We are pleased to join with HROA to offer this specialized certification for HR professionals.”

Said HROA Chairwoman LeAnne Andersen of Best Buy: “The HROA is committed to improving the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of HR outsourcing. To obtain the COP-HR certification, professionals must first obtain IAOP’s COP designation. Individuals also will have to pass a COP-HR exam and meet re-certification requirements.

IAOP will develop the COP-HR standards, application, exam and certification/re-certification requirements while HROA will develop the supplementary course material and case studies.

The associations will create a core set of HR outsourcing-related course materials and case studies for the Outsourcing Body of Knowledge (OPBOK-HR) that will be delivered to professionals seeking the certification in a live workshop format. An online workshop format also will be explored.

Under the agreement, HROA members will receive discounts on the COP application, exam, classes, workshops and materials.

The COP-HR certification is the newest in a group of expanded certification programs launched by IAOP under the Outsourcing Professional Certification Framework™ (OPCF) with a full range of certifications for individuals at every career level. IAOP also offers a Certified Outsourcing Specialist-Human Resources (COS-HR) designation for entry-level positions.

Two Leaders Honored by Industry at Outsourcing Summit in California

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., Feb. 22 – Two leaders who have left their mark on the outsourcing industry and society through their work at CB Richard Ellis and Uniliver were inducted today into the Outsourcing Hall of Fame.

The latest inductees into the prestigious hall are William F. Concannon, president, global corporate services at CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc.; and Sandy Ogg, former chief human resource officer at Unilever.

The pair was honored at a luncheon ceremony attended by hundreds of outsourcing professionals during the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals®’ (IAOP®) 2011 annual conference, The Outsourcing World Summit® here.

“The Outsourcing Hall of Fame exemplifies the positive impact outsourcing has on business and society,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett. “We are proud to induct the newest members into this hall and recognize them for their outstanding work and many contributions to the industry and world around us.”

Established by IAOP in 2006, The Hall of Fame continues to grow globally and now has 20 members in its ranks. The unique honor recognizes individuals for their outsourcing achievements as well as their contributions to community-based economic development and socially-directed investments, career development, education and training through outsourcing.

Other recent inductees are: Joshua R. Jewett, senior vice president of Information Technology and procurement, and chief information officer, Family Dollar Stores, Inc.; Dmitry A. Loschinin, president and chief executive officer, Luxoft; and the late Dewang Mehta, past president, NASSCOM®.

Consumer Giant Recognized for Outsourcing

Ogg retired on Jan. 1 as Chief Human Resources Officer at Unilever after seven years with the global consumer products company. He is currently an operating partner for Blackstone Group in New York.

Ogg started his Uniliver career in 2003 as senior vice president human resources in the food division. He effectively used HR outsourcing to lead the company through an ambitious change agenda in 2005 and also shared these experiences with Summit attendees as a keynote speaker at the event, prior to accepting the Hall of Fame award.

“I am very honored to receive this prestigious award recognizing the great work done by our team at Unilever,” he said.

Prior to Unilever, Ogg was senior vice president for leadership, learning and performance at Motorola. Before that, he served as managing director of Dove Consulting and was founder of the VIA Consulting Group. He began his career as a line officer in the U.S. Coast Guard conducting search and rescue at sea.

He is co-author of VIA, From Vision into Action, The Future of Organizational Learning and numerous articles on leadership and HR. He had served on the Board of BBH Advertising and Rotterdam School of Management.

Ogg has served as vice chairman of the European Academy of Business and Society (EABIS), a unique alliance of companies, business schools and academic institutions supported by the European Commission, which has become the international reference point for Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability issues in management practice, research and education.

Outsourcing Provider Honored

CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) has been recognized as a leading provider of commercial real estate services in IAOP’s Global Outsourcing 100 for the past four years and Concannon has been an innovator in delivering outsourcing solutions that help add value and enable clients – ranging from technology firms to health care companies – to focus on their core competencies.

Concannon has worked in corporate real estate outsourcing since 1986 when he helped build Trammell Crow Corporate Services’ (TCC) real estate and facilities outsourcing business with corporate clients as president and CEO of the company. That business has become the largest in the marketplace, working with global corporations, healthcare agencies and governments. He served as a member of Trammell Crow Company’s Board of Directors from 1991 to 2006.

Concannon joined CBRE in 2006 when it acquired TCC and previously was vice chairman of global corporate services before being appointed to his current position in 2009. He also is a member of the Global Executive Board and the Americas Operations Management Board.

“For a client service professional, there is no higher honor than joining the ‘best of the best’ in IAOP’s Hall of Fame and I am deeply humbled by this honor,” said Concannon. “It is also a recognition that could not have happened without our partnership with an incredible roster of clients and the hard work of my 29,000 CB Richard Ellis colleagues around the world, collaborating to deliver innovative commercial real estate solutions every day.”

Concannon has been an involved supporter of CB Richard Ellis’ partnership with Rebuilding Together and HomeAid America through its CBRE Cares national program. The company has been involved with housing rebuilding projects across the U.S., including rehabilitating a low-income neighborhood in the Super Bowl host city of Dallas last month.

Data supplied by outsourcing service providers participating in the annual listing showed the industry grew 10 percent in 2010, IAOP reported from its Outsourcing World Summit®.

Cloud-based Outsourcing Solutions on the Rise, IAOP Survey Shows
Organizations Expand Outsourcing to Increase Flexibility

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., Feb. 21 – Driven by the need for flexibility and speed, organizations will increasingly implement cloud-based outsourcing solutions in the coming year, according to results from a global membership survey of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ (IAOP).

IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett shared findings from the association’s annual member survey, based on inputs from its more than 110,000 members and affiliates worldwide, during his keynote remarks to open The Outsourcing World Summit® here.

Current social and economic trends, new outsourcing approaches, internal teams of skilled professionals and the continued development of outsourcing as a management discipline all are positive for the industry’s future, he said.

“We stand on the threshold of the Golden Age of Outsourcing,” Corbett said. “The components are all in place for 2011 to be the year that outsourcing becomes a truly global platform for real business transformation and sustainable growth.”

New Outsourcing Platform Emerging

Released today, the survey conducted with the support of Accenture found that two-thirds of outsourcing customers have or will implement cloud, or Internet-based, computing solutions.

Respondents said they plan to use cloud-based outsourcing solutions to manage customer relationships, human resources, finances and documents; process transactions and deliver other administrative services.

“Cloud-based outsourcing is emerging as one of the biggest changes underway in the outsourcing delivery model,” Corbett said. “Speed and flexibility are the biggest benefit customers see in these solutions.”

The survey also found that outsourcing has expanded significantly as both a management practice and an industry over the past year and will continue its growth. Eighty percent of customers indicated their organizations plan to pursue more new outsourcing opportunities in 2011.

As business conditions continue to improve, companies are increasing their use of outsourcing to meet new challenges deeper in their organizations and to deliver better outcomes. Clients are looking for outsourcing providers to bring industry expertise, analytics and innovation to the table, leading to better business insight and greater value creation, said Mike Salvino, group chief executive, BPO, at Accenture.

Increasing business flexibility was a top reason for outsourcing given by 59 percent of the members participating in the survey as was achieving long- and short-term savings.

Using outsourcing to support future business opportunities is more important now to 62 percent of respondents and accessing skills and talent is increasingly important to 40 percent.

The survey also found that outsourcing is increasingly driven by internal teams of professionals. Respondents said the number of outsourcing professionals working at their organizations grew by more than 40 percent with wages and compensation also going up in many organizations.

“Outsourcing has itself become a recognized organizational competency,” he said. “Companies are beginning to make the necessary investments to build these skills across their organizations. This new breed of outsourcing professional is advancing management practices and processes that produce consistent, high-quality outcomes.

Another key finding is the continued push by outsourcing customers and providers to make their programs more socially responsible. The survey showed about 70 percent of members responding say that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important to critical part of their outsourcing programs.

IAOP and ANDI Event to Focus on Region’s Continued Growth as an Outsourcing Market and Destination

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, Jan. 10 – With Latin America as one of the fast-growing outsourcing markets and destinations, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) has joined with ANDI, the National Business Association of Colombia, to host the region’s first 2011 Latin American Outsourcing Summit.

The Summit will bring together IAOP’s thought leadership and global network with leaders from across the Latin American business community to better understand and leverage the explosion of outsourcing taking place across the region.

Latin America’s growth is being driven by the attractive mix of cultural and language compatibility, size and quality of the labor pool, and strong government support for the industry among other strengths, says Santiago Pinzón, chair of IAOP’s Latin America Regional Advisory Board and Executive Director of the Chamber of BPO&IT at ANDI.

“With service providers and outsourcing clients looking for all means to save on costs, geographical proximity as another means to cut travel expenses and minimize remote management risks, the Latin America region joins the ranks for the competition of the growing global outsourcing market,” he says.

Many of the top 10 providers of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT outsourcing as well as a growing number of multinational corporations in the high-tech sector have successfully established or are planning to expand their operations in the region, Pinzón noted.

Companies from India and Philippines also are realizing the benefits of the nearshore location to serve the U.S. market, particularly the Hispanic segment, and increase their share in the Latin America region, he said.

Greater political backing for outsourcing among top predictions for coming year

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, Dec. 23 – What you call it, how and where you buy it, and what you think about it could all change in the coming year, according to 2011 forecasts on outsourcing from the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®).

IAOP predicts increased outsourcing acceptance politically; sourcing from all shores as well as domestically; a retail model to outsourcing emerging; and companies outsourcing multiple functions with fewer vendors.

Other top 10 trends forecasts by the association’s leaders and members from around the world include continued revenue growth, a Latin America boom, innovative partnerships and consolidation, impactful technology, better risk management and competition for talent.

Here’s what they see ahead:

Top 10 Outsourcing Trends for 2011

1. Increased Outsourcing Acceptance

President Barack Obama’s comments in India this November about outsourcing set the stage for potentially creating a more favorable political outlook on outsourcing in the coming year.

Meeting with government and business leaders from both countries this fall, the Democratic president said, “In 2010, trade between our countries is not just a one-way street of American jobs and companies moving to India. It is a dynamic, two-way relationship that is creating jobs, growth and higher living standards in both our countries.”

As the management practice of outsourcing matures and is used widely by organizations across the globe, more people are coming to see outsourcing as “one of the most powerful tools available today for building better companies and better economies,” says IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett.

In fact, "the top 200 companies in the global outsourcing industry employ approximately 4 million people and a full one-third of those jobs are in the U.S.," says Corbett. "It's time for us in developed economies to realize the value of outsourcing and to start investing and competing for a share of the global, multi-trillion dollar outsourcing industry.”

2. So Many Sources

Expect to see many more different sourcing arrangements than in the past.

Socio-economic pressures on leading countries — U.S., Britain and Germany — will lead companies to consider onshore outsourcing or center establishments in the same light as offshore outsourcing, projects IAOP’s managing director thought leadership and president of JDalal Associates, LLC, Jagdish Dalal, a Certified Outsourcing Professional® .

Economic incentives provided by local and federal government for encouraging employment in depressed economic areas will encourage competition with lower rate offshore destinations, said Dalal.

“This ‘socio-sourcing’ will extend the definition of rural sourcing as we have been observing for last several years,” he said.

Domestic outsourcing is projected to gain mainstream visibility with provider firms creating new jobs in the country that will leverage both "work-from-home" concepts and a skilled workforce that's not mobile in such markets as Michigan, Idaho and Wyoming, predicts IAOP Asia Ambassador Bobby Varanasi, COP, Chairman & CEO of Matryzel Consulting, Inc.

No matter where outsourcing work takes place, the bottom line is “outsourcing is a global phenomenon and companies are working on their own and with their network of providers to leverage the best talent wherever and whenever they need it – they’re looking for solutions, not shores,” says Corbett.

IAOP strategic advisory board member John Hindle, marketing lead outsourcing for Accenture, sees the outsourcing industry moving into a new phase.

“The continued trend toward bundling, driven by client’s need to rationalize the outsourcing service provider portfolio and by adoption of Global Business Service models, could be described as a shift from outsourcing to sourcing of business services, including information technology,” Hindle says.

3. Growing Up

In 2010, revenue of outsourcing service providers grew at the fastest pace in recent years of more than 10 percent, according to IAOP’s Global Outsourcing 100 data. This growth is expected to continue in the coming year, the association predicts.

Smarter buyers will return to the market in 2011 with greater confidence in the economy and demand will grow as outsourcing continues to be accepted as a mature business practice, Hindle says.

However, corporate pressure to reduce costs and lower longer term commitment will continue the current trend of highly competitive bidding for services and shorter duration of contracts with favorable terms embedded to alter volume of service without re-opening contract negotiations, Dalal predicts.

4. Latin America Growth

IAOP expects the Latin America region to experience a boom in 2011, particularly in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru, which are strategic locations to the U.S. market.

The growth will be driven by the attractive mix of cultural and language compatibility, size and quality of the labor pool, and strong government support for the industry among other strengths, says Santiago Pinzón Galán, chair of IAOP’s Latin America Regional Advisory Board and Executive Director of the Chamber of BPO&IT at ANDI (National Business Association of Colombia).

But the region will have to address compliance, legal, financial and tax barriers to outsourcing to best succeed, says Julia Santos, COP, director worldwide strategic outsourcing, Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies, and chair of IAOP’s Global Human Capital Chapter.

5. Cloudy Vision

The trend of using advanced management practices, tools and technologies to provide improved value and operational flexibility and performance will continue by companies in 2011.

“In outsourcing, advanced technologies will be major game changers impacting productivity and resulting in cost management, and governance and risk compliance,” says Matt Shocklee, COP and IAOP U.S. Ambassador.

Cloud computing will bring both “simplicity and complexity,” according to Accenture’s Hindle.

“It will simplify and standardize the procurement of specific services, but it will also increase the number of providers and complicate the service architecture,” he says. “Buyers will need help integrating new capabilities with legacy systems, and ensuring security and performance in the process.”

6. Combo Orders

If companies were ordering their outsourcing services off a menu, more will be choosing combo platters in the coming year showing they are outsourcing in a more integrated way as part of comprehensive strategic plans.

“We have been seeing companies combine multiple processes in their outsourcing initiatives rather than outsourcing single processes or functions on a stand-alone basis,” says IAOP strategic advisory board member Neil S. Hirshman, COP, partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. “And these companies are creating innovative ways of managing multi-vendor environments and the connections between dependent services.”
Ossama Nazmi, Chairman of IAOP’s MENA Regional Advisory Board, expects that major companies will seek to work with only a handful of vendors and hire those that have global reach and presence in both established and emerging markets.

“Companies heading for that type of business consolidation will enjoy an easier and leaner vendor management coupled with higher bargaining power with those few selected vendors,” said Nazmi, vice president of Xceed.

7. Retail-ization of the Marketplace

Where will companies “shop” for their outsourcing services? With the increased specialization in the provider landscape, Accenture’s Hindle sees three categories of providers emerging: big box operations offering reduced costs, boutique firms providing more customized service and department stores with the appeal of trusted advice and support.

“Thinking about sourcing decisions in this simple framework can help buyers crystallize their sourcing decisions,” Hindle says.

Dalal also predicts a greater stratification of service providers ahead with large broad firms and large specialized firms dominating while middle- and lower-sized providers struggle to survive.

8. Innovative Partnerships and Consolidation

Look for greater opportunities for providers to collaborate more closely with their customers in 2011, IAOP says.

“Companies will look to their strategic external providers to help them cut costs, do more with less, work smarter and be innovative,” says Santos. “We will see more innovation coming from collaborative relationships rather than ideas coming from internal sources. Contracts will need to be designed to capture more of the collaborative partnership spirit. Companies will better understand that they cannot do it alone and need the skill and expertise of their providers to survive.”

Also, expect more cross-border partnerships in 2011, as cash-rich provider firms from developing nations invest into mid-market domestic provider firms in the U.S. to offer collaborative multi-country services, Varanasi says.

Challenging local economic conditions in India and the resulting competitive pressure to reduce price offerings of outsourced services will lead to increased consolidation of offshore providers, Dalal said, providing further opportunity for established U.S. providers to acquire struggling providers and increase their offshore presence.

9. Risky Business

2011 will be a year where companies will need to learn to manage market, financial, security and other risks, IAOP members predict.

“Global regulation, global economic policy and technology security remain hot button issues,” according to IAOP board member Dylan Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Colliers USA.

With the increased reliance by companies on the Internet and cloud computing, companies will need to develop “rock-solid data and information security and privacy strategies and plans,” says Shocklee, president and CEO of Global Sourcing Optimization Services.

10. Talent Competition

Recruiting, developing and retaining key employee talent will be a critical challenge facing organizations in 2011. To prepare for this, IAOP continues to see ongoing demand for its professional certification and training programs under its Outsourcing Professional Certification Framework™.

Social media also will be increasingly used by companies to recruit employees globally, Varanasi predicts.

IAOP’s Dalal anticipates corporations will use more supplementary staffing as a normal stop-gap measure to control headcount while gearing up to handle anticipated demand increases. This will alter how supplementary staffing companies compete against traditional outsourcing service providers. In IT, engineering and R&D, such project based staffing will become a form of “hybrid outsourcing,” he says.
